Coping with headaches and heartburn

12/25/2011

I've been given quite a few tips to deal with the constant headaches and heartburn. Gatorade really has seem to ward off (or at least reduce from migraine to slightly annoying) the headaches. But there seems to be no reprieve from the heartburn.

Until my next appointment I'll do what I have been doing - pop a tums and stay awake until it goes away (a little). Unfortunately last night I ate pizza and drank gatorade. I think that was too much salt. I woke up and my hands were 2 x's their normal size. It was so weird feeling.

I guess at least now my engagement ring won't fall off - ha!

The smeller

I live in a duplex, they call them Twindominiums in Shorewood, but I think that's ridiculous. The house is very old, and "acts" like it.  I live in the upper.

The downstairs neighbors burned their dinner last night. I noticed it at about 7 p.m. I know my nose is ultra sensitive these days, but smoke was actually billowing into my house.

The storm windows are hung. This means it's not as simple as simply opening a window to air it out. I turned on the two vents in the kitchen and tried to open the windows I could  - the kitchen windows but they didn't really open. I shut the bedroom doors, but for the room I'm sleeping in, it was too late - EVERYTHING smelled like smoke.

I call George crying. I've been having really bad migraines the past few weeks and this was not a welcomed occurrence. I asked him how the hell do you open the storm windows. Well, in theory opening the windows would not be that hard - in actually they were a B!$@#!

I opened one with a hook in the back bedroom, but it only swung open and since a storm window fell out smashed to the ground (shattering all over) in November, I didn't want to let it just flop in the wind.  I went back to the room I typically sleep in and managed (after a load of swearing, sweating and pounding) to finally pop one with "sliders" open.  I couldn't muster enough strength to open one next to it.

Then came the next challenge - keeping all of the doors closed so the cat didn't escape into the night.

I tried sleeping (in the back room) as the door was closed and so I didn't think the smoke made it there. I was wrong. I woke up 2 hours later with a pounding migraine. I could smell that smokey burnt dinner smell on everything!

I pulled out my sleeping bag and slept in my car until 4:30 a.m.  I highly recommend the Eddie Bauer cold edition sleeping bags - I was snug as a bug in a sleeping bag ;)

2 bottles of fabreeze, lysol and a really cold house later - the smell is nearly all gone. Now

George went back to New York - I miss him already

George has landed safely in Vermont and is on his way back to New York. I don't realize how much I miss him, until he's here and gone again. We went to the Muppets last night (the only thing we did for "fun" while he was here for  the week.

He came to visit during the worst (or best in my perspective) week of the year, the week before finals. It was so nice to have someone here to help with carrying groceries, taking out the garbage and bringing me to school. He saved me from a nervous breakdown I'm pretty sure.  We went to Shiraz (on Oakland Ave) before the movie and it was fantastic. The movie was great too. It was so nice to spend that time together.

We accomplished a lot. The nursery furniture was delivered, we made another trip to Good Will, George carried the tubs-o-clothes I won't fit into for a few months up to the attack, and we bought a single bed for "visitors." Since George is 1100 miles away and I'm working until May in Milwaukee, we have to prepare for many scenarios.

I am still gaining weight in exorbitant numbers since November and this is not good. So I started my yoga regime today. I noticed in the beginning parts of the pregnancy that I got a funny feeling on my left knee when I knelt, and tonight I really felt it. It's feel like I have some nerve blockage or something. I'm hoping with a little messaging and more yoga, this will work itself out.  Wish I could afford a message (time and moneywise).

The baby is doing great. He's moving around and seems to be doing well. And that's the most we could ask f

My gums keep bleeding

I had a dental cleaning a couple weeks ago and everything was fine. It was great in fact. But in the past couple days my gums have been bleeding out of control for no reason. It's gross. The taste of blood reminds me of my "broken nose, so let's break it again surgery" in high school. YUCK. Stop it gums.

Today was the big day

I had the "big ultra sound" which resulted in the images that the doctor called "cute." But I see them more as a little creepy. They make my baby look like an alien ;p

So the news. There is a 99.9% probability that the baby does not have down syndrome. The heart looks great. The spine is fine. It's got feel that resemble George's.

And it's  a BOY!

You gained a lot of weight - Week 19.5

Yep - that's what my doctor told me today. Gee thanks.

Apparently I put on 7 pounds in the last month. I guess some of this can be attributed to not walking 2.5 miles to and from work everyday (it's too darn cold outside), Thanksgiving and oh I have a baby doubling in size every two weeks?

I guess in the first 16 weeks I only gained 5 pounds. So, yes I can see that 7 is a bit overdoing it.

So, starting tomorrow it's yoga everyday. I don't have a gym membership, nor a horse. So that's all you're getting out of me doc. Oh and maybe I'll stop eating burgers and chicken everyday :(  This leaves me with cereal since there's nothing else I really like to eat.

I really wish I could have a medium rare steak, with drippy yolk eggs and giant glass of wine. Soon enough :)
