Biggest Tantrum Yet

The report from daycare was good today. That's two solidly positive days in a row. I could tell Coco was a tired though when I picked him up.

We're supposed to get the first snowstorm of the season tonight and it was sleeting on the way home. That made for a long drive. We chatted with Grandpa until it was time to go inside.

Mommy had super-human save skillz as Colton slipped stepping off the stair from the garage to the walkway. He landed on his bum. But instead of being scared he became enthralled with the snow. He shuffled around and didn't want to come inside.

Once in, we went straight to the chair. The meal started ok. He had carrots and cheese ravioli. Then it all went down hill when he wanted the darn raisins. And more please raisins. And more please raisins. I made some baked beans in hopes he'd switch, but nope. More raisins please. More raisins PEEEEEEEES.

He then had some hamburger (I was prepping a hamburger, potato pot roast). I took him out the chair and he had his first unconsolable melt-down. Instead of turning into a puddle of mush, his typical move, he wailed and wailed and grabbed my legs. Tears were streaming down his cheeks. I bent down and tried talking to him. WAIL - SCREAM - CRY. I picked him up and he contorted to rigor mortis body while I took him up the stairs. I thought maybe talking about the snow would make him calm down - NOPE.

We went into the bathroom and I shut the door to prevent an escape. He reached up to the door handle and attempted to turn it... I didn't know he even knew about door handles. He's still screaming.

I sat down on the bathroom mat and tried taking of his shirt. He screamed NOOOO (or his actually sounds like NEEEOOOOOW). I got it off and he actually picked it up, slid it over his head and put his arms through the holes (While screaming). He put on his own shirt! I was amazed and trying not to laugh.

I struggled to take off his pants. He tried putting them back on as well. But I stood him up and unlatched one of the velcro from his diaper. He freaked out (even more). He was so mad. I got the diaper off and he sat on the (cold) floor and looked at me like I was the worst person in the world. I took the diaper and told him that I was going to "Shoot" it into the diaper pail, since he really likes basketball. FINALLY - the shriek moved to a whimper. Until I actually made the shot and then he wanted the diaper back out... arghhh.

Someone I managed to put on the night time diaper - he scratched at it and wailed the entire time. I put on his pants and brought him to his room. I stuck him in the crib and ran down to grab the laptop. Thank goodness gramma and grandpa didn't shut off their Skype.

I took him out of the crib and the combination of Baby Sutton and Grandpa finally eased his suffering. By this time he was exhausted. And it was all because of raisins!  Thank goodness I didn't give him a cookie ;)

Colton handed a toy to his day care lady Jen today and said Thank you (in Colton talk). I guess I've heard him say it before and didn't put it together until I heard him say it to someone else. So, although he was saying her response -- he's getting it! He actually had a good day today. No biting and limited pushing, hitting and hair grabbing...

Picture
Today Google celebrates the birthday of Raymond Loewy, the father of industrial design. Our little man Colon has a connection to Loewy as his grandfather George Mallet-Prevost was a designer and commissioned painter  for Loewy.

A painting done by Grandpa Mallet was featured prominently during Loewy's interview with Edward R. Murrow during his CBS interview on "Person to Person."
