He passed from a very painful colic and my heart hurts as it's the same way little Beau went so many years before him.
I feel so bad for my mom because Cobrizo was a staple in her day-to-day routine. Little Dodo we will forever love youl

Cobrizo DeOro was a wonderful horse. He wasn't the most athletic, he was very mouthy - but after a decade or so he just tickled you with his nose. He was always there for a treat, to be brushed, or to take a walk down the road.

Shot are updated, coggins is negative, health certificate is complete. Now we're just waiting for the shipper to verify the date. I'm so excited.
Today I put a bunch of barrels out around the arena. I placed three of them lengthwise across next to the rail. While lunging I urged Rob to approach. The first time he came up to them counter-clockwise he stepped on front foot over (and got stuck), then then mustered the other front leg and now was straddling the center barrel and parked out like a Morgan..
He scrambled his back legs (stepping on and crunching one of the barrels down). But he bunny rabbited his back legs over and then stood and licked. I lunged him around, without attempting to jump a few times each direction. Then I had him approach the barrels going clockwise and he sailed over them easily, stopped and licked and chewed. I praised him and rubbed his forehead. Then again a few more circles both directions without jumping. I asked him to take the jump again going counter clockwise and he was very hesitant and balked a few times. But I just kept pushing him forward and eventually (after a few attempts to turn around, switch direction and flee) he did it. Then I rode him around and he was great. He's not ready to be a barrel horse however as he likes to keep a nice safe distance from those crazy barrels that might eat him (he jumped over them with 2-3 feet clearance each time too). Cobrizo on the other hand knocked a barrel over he got so close. Both horses don't understand the concept of running home and I'm fine with that ;) Rob got a light workout today. I decided to put the bareback pad on and give him a spin. I had rubber boots on, so spurs weren't an option. Jill lost the flap to the crop yesterday so my only goal was to keep moving forward. He was pretty good and only balked a couple times.
We walked and trotted, stopped and backed. We'll save the canter for a future date :) My mom picked Robby up from Sarah Paripovich Training today. He's so chill now after experiencing one long show after the next that he didn't even make a fuss when he arrived. He didn't whinny and so the other horses didn't even notice that he was unloaded from the trailer.
I guess Cobrizo stayed out in the pasture as he saw the trailer and thought it was for him - he doesn't like to work. Mom put on Robby's bell boots (until his shoes can be pulled) and he didn't even run around. He went out to the hay bucket and just started munching. Very uneventful. I'm grateful for that! Now he can just be a horse for the winter. He worked hard the past year and has earned it. NO WAY. My horse dreams have come true. I was finally able to trot in to receive a Top-Ten ribbon! We had a few bobbles in the class so I was so grateful for that. The ride was not as clean as our sectional class, but we still managed a 1st, 1st and 4th on the cards making us the 2013 Canadian National Champion of the HA/AA Hunter Pleasure Select Rider AATR (A class for riders who have not won at the national level in the hunter division).
(Still waiting on photos from Jeff Janson photography - 2 months and waiting...) The day after his fifth birthday Robby won his first national ribbon. He was first, second and second on the cards in section B of the Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian hunter pleasure select rider AATR class.
It was the best ride I've ever had on him. Judge John Rannanberg said, "Nice job" as he walked the final inspection (funny thing he gave us second). I was so tickled. He was such a good boy! Robby did it - he qualified for Canadian Nationals. He was unanimous reserve champion behind last year's US National futurity winner with Sarah Paripovich in HA/AA Hunter Pleasure Junior Horse. I earned Top 5 in both Select Rider ATR (out of 14) and in AAOTR 19-39 (out of 11).
Robby went to his first show in May. He earned a second place in HA/AA hunter pleasure junior horse (out of 10) qualifying him for the Region 10 Championship show in June.
He trailered down the the Minnesota State Fair Grounds again in June. The Wednesday pre-show resulted in three classes, three places (one class significantly better than the other two) and two qualifications for Rachael as the rider for regionals. His first class on Friday resulted in a unanimous reserve championship in HA/AA Hunter Pleasure Junior Horse with Sarah Paripovich. They were the unanimous second behind last year's US National Futurity winner. Not bad. Then Rachael rode him in HA/AA hunter pleasure limit rider resulting in a Top 5 out of 14. They were second, fifth and sixth on the cards. Sunday was another Top 5 in HA/AA hunter pleasure AAOTR 19-39 out of 11. So in two (technically three, but to Robby the pre-show was no different from Regionals since they were at the same time in the same place) shows Rob is already a three-time regional winner with a left-over nationals qualification for AAOTR for next year. He's earned 15 of the 60 points needed for his legion of honor and is going to Canada! Crazy his third show is the Canadian Nationals. Not bad Robby. |
