Dear City of East Bethel City Council Members,
I am writing in response to the FOX 9 investigation on Lowell Friday and horse abuse. Although I have not lived in East Bethel for many years, I was ecstatic this story is coming out - again. My Parents live down the road from Mr. Friday and can not understand why he has gotten away with killing horses for this long.
I am sure you are aware this is not the first time Mr. Friday's business practices and inhumane treatment of horses has been brought to your, and the community's, attention. Kudos to Fox for producing the piece that if nothing less, should cause embarrassment to the city.
I watched the report and found some inaccuracies. The files on Mr. Friday should go back about a decade from the 1991 date that was reported. My mother filed complaints for years and yet nothing was done. In fact, Mr. Friday filed a complaint about our horses, in retaliation - it was rubbish. All of the local vets know our horses and the attention to care my mother gives them. These are the same vets that will neither step foot onto Friday's farm, nor do they have the courage to do what they should be obligated to do - report obvious and blatant abuse and neglect. Why does Friday have so much power over the situation? This I do not know. But it appears that it's a little easier when you have friends in high places.
The part of the story that was so upsetting, is the obvious lack of regulation and enforcement. Toxic acorns? There are many ways to disprove this! You can see the horses are wormy, or that the hooves aren't trimmed. It's not hard to see. Where are his vet reports from trying to save these horses? "It's a very frustrating case... Every year he has distinct emaciation issues." - EVERY YEAR!
Also Mr. Friday has had at least one other instance where an agency came in and took unfit horses away from him. Why does East Bethel and the Humane Society continue to allow this to happen?
The problem is not "catching" him doing something wrong. He will not change. It hasn't changed in the 27 years he's lived down the road from my family. It is the fact that the people who can make change possible do not. How much time do you and Mr. Streff from the Humane Society need? 30 years should be enough.
I would request for the love of the horses and common decency that you not let this continue one moment longer.
According to the little girl, who has done more than the city has in 30 years,"A colt dying isn't a good ending." Stopping him from his practice, and killing animals, would be.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Rachael Jurek
[Edit] [Delete] [View Comments]Subject : Gosh Darn OpossumPosted Date: : Nov 6, 2007 10:12 PMI went to throw away some garbage and a rat tail came slithering out. I screamed (kind of , it was more of a, "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.") and then saw the tail belonged to an Opossum - THANK GOD it wasn't a rat.
Still freaked me out a bit. I had a coon jump out at me when I first moved in. It's dangerous in the wilderness of the East side. I'm going to have to take my stick out with me again...
Darn Opossums.
[Edit] [Delete] [View Comments]Subject : backwardsPosted Date: : Oct 25, 2007 10:16 PMI bought some new underwear and they were more of a boy cut... Well, I noticed today that they fit weird. I thought it was b/c of my rather large arse. Oh, no - I'm stupid. I wore my underwear backwards all day. I never got a chance to swith them around after I noticed in the morning.
Oh well. Problem solved for next time I guess. Good thing I"m not a boy!
[Edit] [Delete] [View Comments]Subject : A couple Maddenisms for 10-21-07Posted Date: : Oct 21, 2007 9:26 PM"It looks like a bootleg. Or maybe he just missed the handoff and it looks like a bootleg."
"That's the thing about having a strong arm, you can force it in small windows."
"Where the heck does Brandon Marshall come from? (because he's so big 6'4" 230) Al just chuckled."
"It looks like he threw it in between 'em. He threw it above Stokley and under Marshall." (Yep, that's what it looks like.)
"The, the, the, the, quick throw came in. Then it's one of two things.
One, is it complete or incomplete? And if it's complete is it a fumble?
But was there contact?
… There's a lot of things to look at Al…
Anthony Smith touches him with his left hand, but it might be before he makes the catch so then it's still a fumble.(or is it?)
Before, before that, before he could touch him it was a fumble – right?
Then you get back to that. What happens now?" Uff-dah!
Good Game - too bad I switched my yahoo pick at the last minute - THANKS STEVE! : p
[Edit] [Delete] [View Comments]Subject : Maddenisms 10/14/07 - “Reggie. Reggie. Reggie. He’s really pulled the cork tonight.”Posted Date: : Oct 14, 2007 8:35 PMSeattle vs. NOFirst of all I have to say, poor Shaun Alexander. What haters they are in Seattle. It's not like he sucks, he's just no Reggie Bush. And Reggie didn't actually start playing until last week either... It's not like Alexander gets big blocks.
With that we will now focus on some of tonight's Maddenisms. Madden actually was pretty good for the first quarter. He made sense. But he didn't fail me. When Reggie started running, so did Madden's mouth
"Walter Jones, the big left tackle for the Seattle Seahawks, is always fun to watch for a Seahawks game." (I'll make sure not to look for him in the other games.)
"When the knee goes down…Remember the one knee equals two feet… If he does get his hand under it, it's okay. Yeah." (Remember 1 knee equals two feet! Remember that.)
"That pass protection was SPECIAL, when you give an NFL quarterback that much time where he can look left, he can look right, he'll complete 90% of the time." – That's special – good for you Drew Brees.
"What did Mike Holmgren say about that? He blew a gasket or somethin?"
"That's a good thing when you still have time outs, you can throw it towards the boundaries and call a time out, or throw it in the end zone."
"If you're going to take a shot, you have to go for the end zone."
"Yesterday I felt that way, today I don't feel that way." – about Holmgren faking calling a timeout. "I don't like that especially since it comes from the back of the kicking team and I don't like when things come from the back."
"You have to have a good snap. Then you have to have a good hold. Then the obvious is you have to have a good kick." (That's how kicks work – I always wondered.)
"You know they feel like they can win their division. It's not like they're in there with the Patriots or the Colts or something." Tru dat!
"Trufant is their best corner. He really got turned around and he really didn't need to get turned."
"That's not even coffee anymore, they put so much stuff in it that if you are in line and someone is ordering three of those things, you are in line long enough to go to another Starbucks." – Remember that tomorrow morning.
"You can tell Lance Moore you can do more than get a first down. After you catch it you can get up and run." – Hopefully Sean Payton got the memo.
"Reggie. Reggie. Reggie. He's really pulled the cork tonight."
More about Reggie - "Tonight he's kept his feet moving. Those moves were jump cut. He's very tough to catch. Just can't find a tackler."
"When you have a guy like Reggie Bush it makes it easy. He hits from the inside, hits from the outside, it really makes it easier for everyone on the offense including Drew Brees."
When Reggie lost it on the 15 with a few moments left in the Third – well Madden didn't have much to say, but he did show us, "Right there. That's the hit that dislodged the ball from Reggie Bush."
My favorite of the night - "If they're going to beat you. Let those other guys beat you. Don't let Reggie Bush do it anymore." (Yeah, I'm sure the loss is less of a loss if Reggie's not a factor - but I'm glad he is, cuz he's on my fantasy team.)
And that was enough for the night. There's still a little more than a quarter left, but I've had my fill and hope you did too
With tonight's comments, could Reggie Bush be the next Favre in Madden's eyes? Nah. I don't think so. But for my fantasy team's sake, it wouldn't be a bad thing. I also realized that I'll need to move him to RB/WR position to get both his passing and rushing yards. I got screwed b/c none of his receiving yards counted – phooey!
