Pink Bats, Art Hotel, Jockeys, movie, more baseball and inventing sports = work

I crammed in 60 hours at the Pot, 15 grading and 3 at the boutique in order to take Friday off to travel down to Louisvillefor my friend Fred's wedding.  Yes I had to take 8 hours of paid leave.

This journey took place in a civic with Nereus (Lu's brother).  We arrived in Louisville to red plastic penguins.  When we walked in the door we were welcomed to naked aboriginal children statues.  Always nice walking into penises and vaginas.  There was a couple sleeping (moving) on a video displayed on the floor.

On the way up to our room there were digital letters that fell from the ceiling and bounced (stayed) on your body until you moved spelling words in the mirror. After passing a few more penguins we made it to the room that had more naked/half naked art on the wall.  I thought it was very tasteful and quite cool.

The bed and pillows were almost the best part of the entire trip - it was like a foam body cast - I haven't slept so well in months.

I ventured down (to plug the meter) and check out the rest of the museum hotel (it's the 21C museum hotel in Louisvilleand I would highly recommend it).  I got so enthralled with a foreign short film of young men playing instruments while picking cotton, sheering sheep and having an orchestra in a pond I totally forgot to plug the meter - ooops.  No ticket - it's all good.

There was a room that I named "the penis room."  This was my first inkling that the hotel most likely catered to the man on man population.  There were several larger than life pictures and portrayals of penises all over.  One wall was cool because they were made entirely out of backwards push pins.  AND I DON'T THINK LOOKING AT PENI IS COOL AT ALL!  There was also a mini piece of Marilyn Monroe made out of shaded Q-tips.

Then we went to the wedding which was also an adventure.  It was an Eastern Catholic ceremony - which differs from Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholicism.  It's kinda a variation of the two. I think it was the Chaldean Syrian Church? The main difference was that they are more Eastern Catholic, but unlike Eastern Orthodox they still believe in the Pope.

Next come a really cool part - the reception was at the Louisville Slugger museum - ah yeah!  I got my pink bat.  Even better - it's personalized - SWEET!

The next day we headed over to Churchill downs and saw a few live races.  I picked the first winner but wasn't so keen on the other races.  I did get hit on by the jockey O.Mojica (he was pretty darn good looking for a 5' man).  He didn't even care I was walking with Nereus.  I so could be a jockey's girl.  What would you call them a crop chaser?  (Like a jersey chaser or buckle bunny)  Anyway.

We drove to Indy that night and I was very disappointed in the fact there was very little representing for the COLTS!  We went to the movie "Waitress" with Nereus' mom, aunt and cousin.  It was a great film.  I'd recommend that too - it's a chick flick that even guys like.

I went to the Arabian Horse show with Carrie Sunday night and it was great to see Minnesotans.  Have I mentioned I have a fondness for that state?

I decided NOT to go into work before the Brewers/Braves game on Monday (this usually results in a crabby Rachael as "I need to work" - it's a problem I'm starting to overcome).  But I put in my AC (there's a blog about this from last year), made scotch-a-roo bars for Lu's birthday and for the most part enjoyed the game.

We invented a new sport while tailgating after the game.  It was the inception of "El Presidente" and it's titled, "Get above the yellow line" which translates into which dumb drunkass will try to jump above the yellow painted line on the cement poles in the parking lot.  El Presiente started and failed.  He jumped, hit, slid, fell and then knocked his head on the pavement.  Although a little bloody he was still alive.  So why would 5 more people try the feat?  Why not?  Curtis did the grasp, climb, hug and pull.  Chad did the scurry and there was a cute little girl that even succeeded with a little help from her friend.  The other Jumpers and Runners, like El Presidente failed. It's a new sport and not recommended unless you have keen skills or are very very drunk.

I ended Labor Day weekend by going into work.  Ohhhhhhhmmmmmmm.  My world is back in balance.

I am applying for jobs in Minne as well as Milwaukee.  Maybe I'll be home soon! If not you'll have to come and visit me here. :) Either way a new job would give me more time to spend, well spend...

Crackin' Down - The powers of good prevail!

The stoop sitters just busted some crack-heads across the street.  Ah yeah.  Five (well 3 for sure, but we think 5 total) were hauled off b/c of our neighborhood watch program.

The watch program is ingenious - really.  You can start one in your neighborhood too.  Simply sit out on your stoop, drink beer, and watch. When you see the same vehicles drive by several times to meet the same messed up looking folks across the street you report it.  Some other factors to look for are 1. Unlimited use of the pay phone resulting in the same dudes coming outside and exchanging words with each caller.  2. the girl with the mini-car that looks like it's been muddin' b/c it's caked with mud.  Only queer thing is that the back driver's side window is missing and she's taking a four-hour nap with an umbrella perched.  3. The same old ladies who haven't looked like they've showered in weeks alternate on the stoop with the sellers.  and the list goes on...

I need to get to a wedding, but today has pretty exciting thus far.  Good prevails :)
