He gets into the crawl position, can do a 360 and scoots while on his little butt, but he's not (forward) crawling yet. His arms are very strong. Because of all of this he may skip crawling and move to walking. This being said, we hope he does crawl for a while because he's quite self-destrucitve sitting. He bangs his head daily on the crib and face-plants often. Sometimes he cries, but it's never for long. He's a tough cookie.
Colton is eight months today. He is now putting himself into the sitting position and has been for the good part of a week. He can pull himself up and jumps into standing if you offer him your hands.

Colton went back to the doctor again today. Daycare called on Friday letting us know he had an apparent reaction to peaches (again). He had also tried yogurt again that morning (we were told to wait about a month before attempting yogurt since he threw up so ferociously last time - about a month ago). In addition he came home and had a rash along the diaper line...
On saturday i noticed a dot on his lip resembling the start of a cold sore. By the end of the weekend he had little pox around his mouth and the diaper area was really bad... Needless to say we decided that our otherwise still happy baby should go to the doctor again. George took him to the doctor because I had to work. Turns out that the thrush had never fully left his mouth, he had a yeast infection below and some virus that peaked. On a good note his breathing was better - which is good because we are now only nebulizing with the abuterol once per day. At nearly 8 months Colton weighed in at 21 lbs 3 oz. Today was the last morning of waking up and nursing my baby. The combination of his biting with his new bottom teeth made this a quick decision.
Colton has always been a bit of a biter. He was labeled a piranha and a barracuda by the lactation specialist at the hospital. He was down to only nursing once a day - at that early a.m. feeding when mommy an daddy didn't want to go down and mix a bottle (anywhere from 3 - 6 a.m.). I liked this special bonding time, but never much enjoyed his clamping. I didn't realize how much the teeth would hurt as he hasn't nursed for weeks. He was placed on the nebulizer with albuterol a few weeks back. Ten days after starting the neb he developed thrush. I didn't want to get thrush from him, so we didn't chance it through nursing. I was lucky that he had slept the two nights prior to developing thrush so we hadn't nursed when he was infectious. He was a fuss (as usual) last night. We fed, nebbed, Ranitidined and Nystatined him. The Albuterol makes him Crazy Baby and he was a bit of a hot mess going down. He woke up ravished at 3 a.m. and I mixed him a bottle. I fed him the bottle in bed and he continued sleeping with George and me. Since his thrush was gone I wanted to try nursing as I miss it for a couple reasons. First I miss the convenience, there's no bottle to mix and clean. Second, it is a bond between mommy and baby and I wanted to remember our last nursing. I felt the end was near and boy was I right. Theo, my friend in Milwaukee advised to flick Colton if he bit me when nursing. Not too hard, but enough to make him realize that it wasn't the right thing to do. I had fluck him a couple times before and it seemed to register. This time I fluck him once and he happily nursed on one side. But he was a bighty-mcbitester on the other. So with that our nursing bond has been severed forever - this is better than him biting my boob off - I'm only kidding a little. I'll miss the nursing and am glad I was able to do it for nearly eight months. I guess this is just one more time I have to wake up each night to pump :/ Yesterday at daycare Jody referred to Colton as a St. Bernard. He has been quite slobberishous lately. We're thinking his top teeth are coming in. Due to the thrush we've been trying to limit his pacifier intake. That's proven more difficult than we would have liked.
Today he was so tired (they said he refused to nap in the afternoon) that he fell asleep in the car. I love when that happens (since we live less a mile away). So I went to the bank and then through Wendy's drive-thru. I introduced George to Colton and my secret ritual of driving to get dinner (so baby falls asleep) and me eating peacefully in the driveway - he he he. During nebulization for dinner tonight Colton tried to feed himself the tastio (the Hannaford's version of Cheerios). We were pretty happy about that. I also gave him a sip of my Aldi's Gatorade from a cup and he slurped it down. I have to remember to purchase a sippy-cup on our next visit to Target. Tonight's mood - Crabbypotomous until bathtime with the ducks, then it was very happysau Today was a couple of firsts for Mr. Man. It was the first time we brushed his (two bottom) teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. He seemed to enjoy it. Then he celebrated his first Thanksgiving at the Country Corner Diner in West Chazy, NY. He at mashed potatoes and squash - and loved it! He ate his first inside of a french fry at Target yesterday but this was his first 'real' sit-down meal. |
