The best thing happened today. While I was sitting on couch this morning at grandma and grandpa's house, Colton came over, put his head on my shoulder and said, "I wuv wu mommy."

Colton is turning into a big boy so fast. I need to blog much more often as he's changing every day. Today we went to the Plattsburgh Post office to get passports for both me and Colton. Because Colton's head in the photo taken at Rite-Aid last Saturday was too big, he had to have another one taken (thank goodness as the last one wasn't very becoming). He sat so well on the stool and listened to both me and the mailman who took the photo. If anyone is wondering the cost for his passport (5-years US, Canada, Mexico and US territories) was $70 not including the photos. Note to self - just take the photos right at the post office next time, they allow a small smile. When I picked him up from daycare tonight I got the typical, excited, "Hi Mommy!" He actually wasn't eating today when I grabbed him from the four-year-old room. We got home and as I was trying to make apple, rice pilaf (which turned out gross) he pulled a chair up to the sink and washed dishes - he actually does a very good job. He scrubs pretty hard and grasps the concept of rinsing before placing the the drying rack. His attention span is amazing. He focused on washing dishes for more than 30 minutes. Then we went upstairs to "Play mommy" "Sit mommy" "Sit book Mommy." I asked him if he had to go potty and he said no, then I asked him if he wanted to wear his "underwears." He said, yes. Last night I showed him the Cookie Monster underwear and he wanted to put them on, but I told him that he couldn't wear them until he used the potty and didn't wear a diaper. Since he was such a good boy about the potty yesterday I brought a pair of Cookie Monster undies out, took off his diaper and let him wear them. I told him that if he wanted to keep them on he had to let me know if he had to go potty. He's still trying to figure it all out so he ran to the potty and sat down (underwear still on). I explained that he needed to take them off before he sat down. So he practiced and made his silly "potty face" but he didn't have to go. He wore the underwear for nearly three hours before I put him in his night-time diaper. We read a couple of books, then a friend called for help with Hootsuite. While I was on the phone Colton requested that I lie down "Ny Ny Mommy" and he pretended to go to sleep on the other end of the couch, head resting on a pillow, complete with fake snoring. He got himself so worked up about pretending to sleep he then played "Ready, Set, GOOOOOO" (jump). Then he rode around on his stick horse Robby. Not only can he walk, trot (click) and canter, he can whoa and back Robby too. Or Amber. Today Colton decided that his daycare lady Amber's name was Elmo. Yes, Elmo.
Colton made his first basket on his little people hoop in the basement today. Daddy was on the elliptical machine and mommy was dishing the rock. Cokie (as he affectionately calls himself) took a right handed J (sans the jump) and it went in. This is a very exciting development.
Today was a very fun day. Colton turned two last Friday and he was extremely sick. He came down with a cold on Thursday night. By Friday he was too sick to go to school. He was well enough to entertain Mechelle, Roxanne, Jen, Jeff, Sara and Emma for a bit of cake at the Country Corner Diner on Saturday, March 22.
He went to the doctor on Monday (3/24) for his 2-year-old check up. He's in the 60th percentile in height and 56 percentile in weight. He also managed to rack up a double ear infection (his FIRST ear infection), a sinus infection and respiratory congestion. You wouldn't know it by hanging around him though. He's the happiest sick kid in the world. Today he helped daddy build a no-mee (snowman). Gramma EE (Lele) watched with baby Sutton on Skype. She and Colton named the snowman Snuffy. Colton amazes us everyday. He like to "BOOO" people (hide -in the open - and scare you by saying Boo!). Today when he woke up from his nap while I was making cole slaw. I had swept the remnants into a pile on the floor. When I brought him down from his room he pointed out that it was "Messy, messy, messy." Until I swept it up and put it in the garbage. I had steamed carrots and broccoli. He ate quite a bit and then I asked him what else he wanted. He answered, "Pizza." (We don't often eat pizza and were unsure where he got the idea.) It sounded like a good idea so after taking his nasty antibiotic (and having some cha cha raisi's (chocolate raisins)) we got in the car and went to Pizza Palace. He was a great little diner. He counted lights (five) and "two kids" (two and five are really the only two numbers he consistently says.) We also found out that one of my dearest friends is pregnant with her first. We're so happy for Chris and Tonya. Being a parent is a magical thing. Poor little C. Lately he's been getting really frustrated. His vocabulary is expanding greatly and he uses his words, but his temper is uncontrollable. Tonight at day care he had a melt down (tuned into a puddle of mush).
The pediatrician has been urging us to put Colton on a Budesonide regimen since we began going there about 17 months ago. Although the trips to the ER have reduced to about once every other month, when the breathing attacks happen they are horrible. So, this Thanksgiving we finally agreed to try it.
We started him on two treatments daily, and it appeared to be going well with his breathing. And, miraculously he was behaving at daycare? Was it because he was feeling better? He wasn't biting! Awesome. But wait… Our little boy who loves books could no longer sit through a couple pages. Even his favorite stories couldn't hold his attention. But his breathing was good. The deal with the doctor was that after he had been cough free for two weeks then we could take him off to see if the Budesonide was the reason he was breathing better. Unfortunately that never happened. One reason is that a side-effect is coughing. And cough he did, although it wasn't a sick cough, it was something that woke him out of sleep. He also got dry mouth with the Budesonide and was drinking water like a camel running a marathon. He woke up in the middle of the night and yelled (in a little raspy voice), "Waaa waaa." I was getting perturbed. In my gut I knew the steroid was not the way to go. But we made the promise to the doctor. (I kinda wanted to just prove that medications are not always the best answer). Then just as we were nearing the two-week mark, he got SICK. Not a little sick, A LOT SICK. The worst he'd ever been with his breathing. This time instead of taking him to the ER George brought him to the doctor where they administered all of the treatments he typically gets in the ER, except instead of costing me between $40 -70, it ran me more like $300! The doctors said, we can't blame it on the Budesonide as we don't know how bad he would have been without being on it. Um. That's CRAP. He was worse than he ever was, he was out of it and on top of it - he was geeking out of his skin because he was all roided up. George and I discussed it. He called the doctor to see the best way to wean him off the med. The nurse on the other line said, "You can just stop." (This is not what the doctor had told us prior.) But we liked that idea. That's what we did. It's now a few days past Christmas and Colton has a bit of a snot nose (started yesterday), but he's breathing fine (knock on wood). He hasn't been in daycare because of winter break, but has maintained health over the holidays. His attention is back at full-force. We're reading book after book, after book, after book. He's watching basketball and running and "biking" and playing basketball daily with Daddy with little to no wheezing. So Budesonide - Good bye, good riddance. I'm thinking we may have to do the same to the doctor as I don't like his quick to medicate (I felt really pressured into it, and was given no alternative options). Oh and we also figured out that Colton is better behaving at daycare because he's using his words so well now ;) My favorite current vocabulary - Noo Mi (snow man) Saaaata A-Chew (for sneeze) Kank-U (thank you) Un-uh Kee Kee (no cat) Woo woo Ou-Sy Gramma sent a three section stackable penguin cookie container. Last night Colton found the largest section and the cookies inside. Mommy promptly hid the penguin up on a high-table (hopefully out of sight). Even if it was out of sight this morning, it wasn't out of mind. As George was serving the morning cereal, I had mentioned that Gramma sent the stackable penguin full of C-O-O-K-I-E-S and pointed to where it was (for George to see). Colton pondered for a moment and then exclaimed, "Cookie!" (Cooo-Key) Yes, he knows that the spelling of cookie also means cookie. Lord Help Us! Colton has been sick again. This time we followed the doctors orders given the day before (11/27/13) Thanksgiving. We were told to give him Budesinide twice a day until his cough was gone. Unfortunately he got really sick again on Tuesday (12/10/13) - labored breathing, snot nose, cough... This is a continuing story for another post.
